Code for Sustainable Homes ratings now mandatory *
From May 1st it is mandatory to have a Code for Sustainable Homes rating and to place this in the Home Information Pack. This will be a rating to a code level if an assessment has been completed, or a nil rating if no assessment has been undertaken.
* This currently applies only to new homes in England where the initial notice was submitted after 30 April 2008.
In Northern Ireland, a Code rating is required from April 2008 for public housing, and an announcement on this subject is expected from the Welsh Assembly in the near future. There are no plans announced for Scotland.

EPCs mandatory in England and Wales from April 6th 2008:
Under the EU's Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, the requirement for Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) has been introduced for all new homes completed from 6th April 2008. NHBC's energy rating and sustainability services have been extended to provide EPCs, and also Predicted Energy Assessments (PEA) for off-plan sales.
Non-dwellings will also need EPCs or Display Energy Certificates during a phased introduction in 2008. Details of the dates of these phases and the buildings affected can be found here.
