EcoHomes

Overview

EcoHomes is a straightforward, flexible and independently verified environmental assessment method for new homes. It rewards developers who improve environmental performance through good design, rather than high capital cost solutions.

Assessments should ideally be carried out at the design stage. Every house type on a site is considered, but the award is given for the whole development. This enables developers to use the result to promote whole sites - every house that is part of the site has the same rating.

EcoHomes considers the broad environmental concerns of climate change, resource use and impact on wildlife and balances these against the need for a high quality of life and a safe and healthy internal environment.

Our service

Our EcoHomes service will make the assessment as easy as possible for you.

We will carry out an initial appraisal of the information relating to your project.
We will issue a guidance report giving you an early indicative score and advising you what further options are available to you to reach your desired rating.
Throughout the assessment we will provide you with guidance and advice.
These benefits are further enhanced if NHBC also provides your building control, since information on your design proposals can be shared, saving you time and hassle.

EcoHomes Guidance Document Downloads

EcoHomes assessments are carried out by NHBC assessors who are trained and licensed by BRE. The BRE provide guidance on the issues EcoHomes looks at. These can be downloaded and viewed as PDF files.
