Code for Sustainable Homes ratings now mandatory - 28th February 2008
From May 1st it will be mandatory for every new home in England to have a rating under the Code for Sustainable Homes. This will be a rating to a code level if an assessment has been completed, or a nil rating if no assessment has been undertaken.
In Northern Ireland, a Code rating is required from April 2008 for public housing, and an announcement on this subject is expected from the Welsh Assembly in the near future. There are no plans announced for Scotland.

EPCs mandatory in England and Wales from April 6th 2008:
Under the EU's Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, the requirement for Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) will be introduced for all buildings in phases from 6th April 2008. NHBC's energy rating and sustainability services have been extended to provide EPCs, and also Predicted Energy Assessments (PEA) for off-plan sales.
