Additional Cover

In addition to the core cover there are options available at extra cost:

Statutory Building Control (BC) inspections

All homes must comply with the Building Regulations, including self built homes. NHBC is an Approved Inspector, authorised by the Government to perform these additional inspections which means that you only deal with one company and one inspector. We can provide this essential service in England and Wales in conjunction with our regular inspection visits. (Please note that Building Control is entirely separate from Planning Consent, which can only be obtained from the Local Authority.)

Please refer to our document NHBC Building Control for Self Builders for a complete description of this service.

SAP and energy conservation

All new homes must achieve basic minimum energy standards, set by the Government. These are regulated through Building Control which requires a Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) rating. NHBC can provide the SAP rating which is accepted by Building Control.

Land Quality procedures for difficult or suspect sites

These days many homes are built on sites with a history of previous use. They may require special foundation design, or treatment of the soil to make safe any harmful substances. Our Land Quality service, as used by NHBC registered house builders, is available for self builders who need to address the risks associated with problem sites.
